Cup exit “devastating,” admits Watson

Salford Red Devils coach Ian Watson couldn’t hide his bitter disappointment at his side’s abrupt exit from the Coral Challenge Cup at the hand of Hull KR yesterday.

Watson had spoken previously of the club’s desire to target a good run in the knock out competition, after showcasing some good form in the league, but was left shattered after Salford relinquished a commanding second half lead to go down 32-18 to the Robins.

“We wanted to have a good run in the cup and we’re devastated,” he told the club website.

“We put up a disappointing performance and we need to be better than that.

“We’ve had some good results and we’ve played really well when we’ve stuck with our processes. Today, we came well away from that.”
