Robert Hicks’ decision to rule out a Dan Sarginson try for an apparent knock on has provoked debate among supporters.
Sarginson raced away from Thomas Leuluai’s offload after the Kiwi had produced a monster hit on Blake Austin to dislodge the ball.
Referee James Child’s on-field call was ‘try’ but video ref Hicks ruled a knock-on against Leuluai, seemingly due to the ball deflecting off the defender’s hand while he made the tackle.
The vast majority of fans to respond were disappointed with the call.

The Sarginson no try from the Leuluai hit is the finest example of decision making by a referee who has never played the game and who isn’t capable of applying any common sense. What a prat you are @Rob_hicks81 Give it up!

Funny thing is… if sarginson would of got tackled he would of played the ball and it would of been play on, on the wire line BUT Because he scored it went to VR😂 Bet sarginson wish he would of got caught now. Bullshit call.

What a disgraceful decision @WarringtonRLFC v @WiganWarriorsRL a great tackle by Leuluei and great try, no wonder people are turning away from the game, these video referees just can’t stop looking for imaginary mistakes to disallow good tries, referees should take control.

In 2003 there was a new rule that you couldn’t knock on if you were making a tackle and then the Roosters scored a try v Saints in the WCC courtesy of that new rule. Obviously they’ve since reversed that. This is the problem with changing the rules every year. Fans can’t keep up.

Bullshit decision Rob Hicks. Video ref must go. #CCWarWig

Never a knock on. Ridiculous. A joke. You can’t slow it down and analyse like that.

Hicks later reversed a ‘no try’ call from Child to award a score to Warrington’s Jack Hughes
