Hemmings handed ‘wide to West’ memento

St Helens marked Sky commentator Eddie Hemmings’ last visit to the Totally Wicked Stadium with a special presentation.

Saints legends Chris Joynt and Tommy Martyn handed over a framed print featuring Hemmings’ famous ‘wide to West’ commentary from 2000.

The plaque on the print reads: “Best wishes on your retirement, Eddie.

“Thanks for the special times you have given us.”

Hemmings will retire from his role as Sky Sports Rugby League commentator on Good Friday.

  1. I’d like to have been there for that,,I was St Bernard the mascot that lost his head! On that very memorable game,,as i pounced on joint, ,,,my head fell off ,longy ran off up the field wearing St Bernard ,s head ,,,whilst the steward asked could I kindly put my head back on,,,I replied, ,look pal he is the great Britain scrum half,,,,,,you catch him! Fantasic memories ,,one that will be shown for many years to come,, regards joe critchley
