Super League has revealed details of a new Awards concept that will include the unveiling of the season’s Dream Team and a new award voted for by fans.
In previous years, the Dream Team was unveiled ahead of the play-offs, but this year’s line-up will be announced as part of the new ‘Super League Awards’ at The Lowry Theatre, Salford, on Sunday 6 October, six days before the Grand Final at Old Trafford.
Players will be selected for the Dream Team based on their performance in the Man of Steel points standing.
The Steve Prescott Man of Steel will also be announced alongside existing awards for Top Try Scorer, Top Tackler, Young Player and Coach of the Year, and a new Fans’ Player of the Year award to be voted for by supporters in the lead up to the event.
Fans will also have the opportunity to attend the event.
The statement explains that “tickets will be available from all Betfred Super League clubs later in the year and fans are encouraged to attend in club colours to represent their team.”
For the first time, the Man of Steel is being adjudicated by a panel of 21 former players including panel Chairman Ellery Hanley, Jason Robinson, Jamie Peacock, Paul Sculthorpe, Garry Schofield and Jonathan Davies.
Hanley said: “I speak on behalf of all the panellists when I say that it has been a huge privilege so far this season to watch amazing athletes on display each week in the Betfred Super League.
“For one player, they will receive the ultimate individual accolade, The Steve Prescott Man of Steel Award on October 6 recognising their outstanding performances during the season.
“And along with other awards being presented on the evening, I am sure the Super League awards will be a great celebration of Super League.”
