Wigan Warriors Director of Rugby Kris Radlinski said officials are currently looking for reasons to disallow tries and called for a change in approach after Dan Sarginson had a try controversially ruled out this afternoon.
Wigan fell to a 26-24 loss in the Coral Challenge Cup to Warrington but were left frustrated after Sarginson’s early score was ruled out for a knock on in the build up from Thomas Leuluai.
After being sent up to the video referee Robert Hicks as a try, it was eventually turned down, causing confusion from fans as well as Wigan’s Adrian Lam and Radlinski, who called the decision a huge ‘own goal’ for the sport.
“That clip should be beamed around the world showing how exciting our sport is,” he said. “What a tackle. Warrington fans were clapping it,” he said.
“We are trying to get a new TV deal and entertain the world yet our officials are looking for reasons not to give tries.
“Something has to change. In a week when sporting drama has been on the front pages, we manage to get it completely wrong again and score a massive own goal.”
