Leeds Rhinos captain Kallum Watkins shocked the rugby league world by revealing which club he will be moving to on 1st July this year after previously agreeing to leave the club at the end of the season.
It was announced that the Rhinos veteran, who is in his 11th year at Headingley, would move on ahead of 2020, but the England international announced last night his signature for NRL club Gold Coast Titans mid-season, meaning he will link up with the Australian club in just two weeks’ time.
Watkins, who won three Grand Finals (2012, 2015 and 2017) and two Challenge Cup finals with Leeds (2014 and 2015), has scored 101 tries in 256 appearances since his debut in 2008.
“It has all happened so quickly, but my focus for now is on helping the Rhinos climb the table,” Watkins said.
“When we announced Kallum would be leaving at the end of the season, given his long and outstanding service to the club, it was agreed that if a long-term opportunity arose we would release him sooner,” Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington added.
