Following Great Britain’s 14-6 loss to Tonga in Hamilton, Lions coach Wayne Bennett gave his thoughts on the injuries to two of his key stars who couldn’t finish the game.

St Helens enforcer Luke Thompson left the field early in the first half with a rib problem whilst Wigan flyer Oliver Gildart dislocated his shoulder late in the second period.

“I don’t think they will play again in this series,” he told the BBC after the game.

Bennett is likely to have to call on his squad depth for next week’s first Test against the Kiwis, with Warrington pair Jack Hughes and Joe Philbin waiting in the wings to come into the pack whilst Hull FC’s utility back Jake Connor wasn’t selected.

“I am happy with the squad right now. We can cover, it is not panic time for us,” he added.
