Centurions sign Field from Wigan

Leigh Centurions have announced the signing of second row forward Callum Field from Wigan Warriors.

Field made his debut for Wigan against Swinton in May 2017, playing four more times that season. He also played three times for Swinton while on dual registration.

The following year he played five times for Wigan, once for Swinton Lions on dual registration and twice at London Skolars. This year, he featured 13 times for Dewsbury Rams on loan.

Field said: “Leigh are a top end Betfred Championship club and I am excited to be joining them ahead of what is going to be a big season.

“I have played against Leigh before and know they are always a tough team to beat and I’m looking forward to being part of the squad coach John Duffy is assembling.

“I have played a number of games in the Championship so know exactly what to expect. John is a straightforward coach who demands his teams work hard.”

Leigh head coach John Duffy added: “I coached Callum over at Wigan when he was about 16. He’s one of the best forwards I’ve seen come through in recent years but he didn’t get the opportunities at Wigan.

“He played at Dewsbury for a s spell last season so he knows what the Championship is about. It’s going to be a big learning curve for him and hopefully he can get plenty of game time.

“Callum is an aggressive player, someone I like watching and someone who fits in with how we want to play.”

This news come on the back of the announcements that the Centurions have signed Danny Addy, Nathan Mason, Ryan Ince and Ben Hellewell, as well as re-signing Iain Thornley.
