Tony Smith provided an injury update on a number of his players in an interview with Hull Daily Mail’s James O’Brien following Rovers opening round win over Wakefield. “We thought we came through unscathed but Jordan (Abdull) has just got something he’s looking into and is having a scan this afternoon so fingers crossed. Mitch (Garbutt) came through great and everybody else has trained both on Saturday and today other than Jordan so everybody is good.”
Kristian Woolf has revealed that star fullback Lachlan Coote is facing a spell on the sidelines after damaging ligaments in his knee during Saints round one win over Salford, but give an exact time line on his return. “Lachlan has suffered an MCL injury and he’s going to be out for a couple of weeks. There’s a possibility that he could be back for the World Club Challenge but is no certainty. We will have to see how he progresses the next couple of weeks,” he said to St Helens Star’s Mike Critchley.
Lee Radford admits that his fit again captain Danny Houghton will come back into his side this weekend, despite an impressive opening round one win over Leeds without him. He told Hull Daily Mail’s William Jackson: “I think there will be some changes this week. Danny Houghton is our captain and he will come back into the 17 somewhere and for that reason there will be some changes in the side, but Danny doesn’t just walk straight back in easily. Danny is back and ready to play but he may not get into the starting line-up.”
Oliver Gildart admits he is delighted for his former coach Shaun Wane after he was appointed the new coach of England today. “I’m made up for him. It’ll be class to link up with him again because he helped me get to the stage where I could play for my country and he was my coach when I got my England debut. It will be pretty cool to be with him again if I do get picked. We’ve won a lot of things together, and we’re both from Wigan, so it will be good to win things on the international stage,” he said to the Wigan club website.
