Joel Tomkins has rejected criticism of his decision to join Catalans. Tomkins was released from his contract at Hull KR for personal reasons before linking up with the Dragons alongside brother Sam. Joel told the Hull Daily Mail’s James O’Brien: “This is the one and only time I will talk about it. People who read into it and think there has been anything underhand are completely wrong.
Jackson Hastings admits he understands the frustrations felt by Great Britain fans after three straight defeats on tour. He told Wigan Today’s Phil Wilkinson: “We want to win – we didn’t come here to put on a Lions shirt and be happy with it. I see a lot of people on social media angry and frustrated, and I’m sympathetic because they want wins and I know personally I want to win as much as anyone.”
Luke Thompson admits he was not 100% fit when he returned to action against the Kiwis but was proud to play for his country as he continues to recover from a rib injury sustained against Tonga. He told St Helens Star’s Mike Critchley: “I felt a few of the Kiwi hits when I came on – I am still not 100 percent but I gave it my best shot and was really proud to pull that short on to represent my country.”
Morgan Smithies admits he expected to spend the 2019 season in Wigan’s under 19s after a year where he rose to prominence as one of the best young talents in the game. He told totalrl.com’s Matt Shaw: “It’s been a dream come true really this year. In the end, I was playing a match to get to the Super League Grand Final. I’m chuffed. I didn’t expect it at all to be honest.”
