Lee Radford believes it is vital that he establishes a settled and consistent half back partnership ahead of the 2020 season if his new look side are to have success, with it still unclear whether Albert Kelly or Jake Connor will play at stand off. He told Hull Daily Mail’s William Jackson: “The last thing you want to be doing as a coach is chopping and changing your half backs every week because someone doesn’t particularly play well. When they’re playing well it takes away that inconsistency in selection.”
Total RL’s Aaron Bower is reporting that the RFL have refused to conduct a poll of support for an independent enquiry to be conducted into the recent issues within the Bradford Bulls club. League Express revealed earlier this month how the topic of Bradford was on the agenda for the meeting at Headingley on Tuesday, with several clubs still keen for answers about the decision-making process behind the RFL’s dealings with Bradford dating back to 2012. But when the matter came to being discussed on Tuesday, it was again shot down by the RFL,” Bower writes.
Tony Smith insists he’s in no hurry to appoint a new captain of his club following the departure of Joel Tomkins. “Me and my staff will get together and I may well consult the players at some stage to get their views on some of it as well. We’ve got a lot of young people here who are prepared to talk up in meetings and training sessions. I’m trying to encourage a lot of them to develop that sort of capability,” he told Hull Daily Mail’s James O’Brien.
Adrian Lam believes Sean O’Loughlin having a full pre-season under his belt ahead of the 2020 season will help him reach a level he was at six seasons ago. The 37 year old is fully rested after not playing internationally, with his coach tipping him for a big campaign in 2020. He told Wigan Today’s Phil Wilkinson: “It’ll probably take him back to the level he was at five or six years. He’s trained in almost every session now. He’s looking sharper. and getting stronger he’s looking like a younger player.”
