Richard Agar has little doubt that Stevie Ward will make a fantastic captain after being given the job of leading Leeds Rhinos. He told The Yorkshire Post’s Dave Craven:
“Stevie thoroughly deserves this accolade and I know he will do an outstanding job,” he said. Last year when we looked to re-establish our standards, Stevie was one of the key members of the group and instrumental in forging our future. He has shown great maturity in recent years in how he has dealt with adversity.”
Chris Chester believes his side are in a much better place heading into this year’s Boxing Day clash with Leeds than they were 12 months ago, after overcoming a year riddled with troublesome injuries. “We’ve managed to get quite a lot more into the players over the past seven weeks and there are some positive signs. The guys are looking really fit, which has been a big focus in pre-season. They are looking strong so it should be a good first hit-out and as long as we don’t pick up any injuries I will be happy,” he told Peter Smith of The Yorkshire Post.
Former Hull FC star Craig Fitzgibbon says that the club’s strong recruitment ahead of th 2020 season will stand them in good stead. He said to Hull Daily Mail’s William Jackson: “It’s been very astute buying from the club and the coaching staff and recruiters and Adam (Pearson), they’ve done a really good job. Those guys will pay dividends I feel. They’re quality players and I don’t know them personally but I’ve seen what they can bring to a footy team.
