Former St Helens hooker Tony Karalius has passed away at the age of 75.

The Widnes-born player joined the Saints in 1967 and played 355 times for the club before he moved to rivals Wigan in 1978.

Karalius, brother of another former Saint Vince, made the number nine jersey his own and was a pivotal part of the 1976 Challenge Cup-winning squad.

Karalius was in the hooking role when Saints faced Eastern Suburbs (Sydney Roosters) in the 1976 unofficial World Club Challenge at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
