Huddersfield chairman Ken Davy says he is not prepared to accept another relegation battle in 2020.

The Giants stayed up on the last day of the season in 2019 and Davy is adamant that there can be no similar turmoil next year.

In a letter to supporters, he said: “Though the Giants finished the Season with a fantastic victory over Catalans, be in no doubt that I am not prepared, as Chairman of this great Club, to accept a situation where we have to scratch around for late season wins to remain in Super League.

“Next season I want and expect us to be back in the upper reaches of Super League, consistently challenging for honours.”

Davy says the club has taken steps to rectify some of the issues experienced in 2019, which predominantly includes a bigger investment in players and the development of existing young stars.

And he told supporters to expect announcements to that end before the start of next season. The Giants remain linked with NRL half Aidan Sezer.

“This year has however also demonstrated what a fantastic crop of young players we have at the Giants and I believe we now need to complement their enthusiasm and ability with a combination of experience and quality so as to regain our top team credentials.

“In every game last year, we had at least 30% of our top squad sat in the stands and on occasion this rose to well over 50% making victories very difficult to achieve.

“To rectify this, we plan to invest in players, staff and facilities and whilst the timeframe is tight our aims are clear, and you can confidently expect to see various important announcements between now and the start of the 2020 campaign.”

Davy closed his statement by emphasising that the purchase of season tickets “is of vital importance” to the club.

He added: “The future of the Huddersfield Giants is very bright indeed and the experience gained by our young guns this year will benefit us massively in 2020.

“You will also see the squad bolstered by more experienced heads to help ensure our younger players can flourish and I for one believe we have some very exciting times ahead.

“I very much look forward to your support and to sharing an exciting and successful future with you.”
