Latrell Mitchell will not return to training with Sydney Roosters after his club announced that he has been granted a leave of absence.
Mitchell had been due to link up with his Roosters team-mates on Monday following the close-season break, and amid speculation linking him with a move away from the club at the end of next season.
The player and the club had been unable to come to terms on a deal beyond 2020.
And in a statement issued on Sunday evening down under, the Roosters appear to have paved the way for Mitchell’s immediate exit: “Sydney Roosters player Latrell Mitchell has been granted a leave of absence, excusing him from all training commitments.”
Mitchell has been linked with the Wests Tigers, Canterbury, North Queensland, Gold Coast and South Sydney, and reports in Australia suggest that the Rabbitohs is his most likely destination.
