West Hull ARLFC have launched an appeal to raise funds towards the maintenance and refurbishment of their clubhouse.
Wests are one of the most successful amateur clubs of the modern era, regularly winning and challenging for silverware in the National Conference League, and often progressing to face pro sides in the Challenge Cup.
They also operate a thriving junior and youth section that has produced an impressive number of professional players.
But the club warns that without vital investment in its headquarters, they will be unable to continue providing opportunities.
A spokesperson explained: “We have seen a significant decrease in use of our Clubhouse in recent times, which we can only assume is reflective of the decreasing number of pubs compared to recent years.
“Our bar revenue is the main way we generate funds to run the club so it stands to reason if we don’t increase use of the Clubhouse we will not survive in the long term.
“At present it costs us approximately £600 per week just to keep the doors open for overheads such as rent, rates, general maintenance, cleaning, facilities management, lighting, heating and insurances.
“This is excluding the costs of operating the rugby teams.
“Unfortunately, and despite the efforts of all of our volunteers, our current levels of revenue versus our essential costs is simply not sustainable in the long term.
“The time has now come for us to appeal to kind hearts and local businesses for help.
“We wish to keep our community Club running for the benefit of the local community by asking if you would kindly consider making a donation which would greatly help us continue to provide a great environment to develop these young people.”
