Grant Millington says he’ll relish Castleford’s upcoming pre-season clash with Toronto and expects both clubs to field strong sides.
The fixture will kick off Michael Shenton’s testimonial celebrations and reports indicate that Sonny Bill Williams could debut for the Wolfpack.
Millington said: “Yeah, it’s massive, especially for Shenny, who’s given so much to the club and been here so long.
“He’s our captain, so we all want to get down here and support him as much as we can and hopefully the fans will do too.
“We expect Toronto to put out a really strong side as it’s the last friendly before the start of the season, and I think we’re going to do the same.
“It’ll be close to full strength Super League sides for both of us. It should be a good contest.”
Millington played half an hour in the Tigers’ defeat to Bradford on Boxing Day and was quick to heap praise on the club’s young players, who he believes stood up well.
“The youngsters did a good job. There were quite a few guys out there who stepped up for the first time to senior rugby.
“They were playing against guys like Anthony England, Steve Crossley and guys with a lot of experience, but they did well and it was a good taste for them.
“You’d always like to get the win but it’s a good introduction to show where they need to get to, and beyond that.”
Millington added that he is eager to build his own match fitness ahead of the new campaign.
“It usually takes you a few matches to get into proper fitness, so the opportunity to get out there and play 30 minutes let me get ahead a bit.
“Hopefully the next few friendlies can help me to continue building.
“You train for however many weeks it is in the pre-season, so it was just good to get out there and do what we love doing.”
