Steve Price hailed the effort of his patched up squad following tonight’s defeat to St Helens.

The Warrington coach was speaking to Sky Sports after the game, which saw the Wire finish with limited numbers.

He said: “I’m actually really proud of the boys tonight, they had a good crack.

“We had no bench for the last 15 minutes of game and were down to 12 men for the last minute and a half.

“We had a lot of new players out there, Matty Smith only had one training session with the lads, there was a new number nine and two 17-year-old kids.

“And when you’re against the form team in the competition it’s very difficult, but we can take a lot of good signs out of the performance tonight.”

Warrington travel to face Wigan next week knowing that defeat to the Warriors could see them lose their grip on second spot.

But Price contested: “We’ll get some players back for next week and we’ll get a longer turnaround, which is positive after a five-day turnaround this time.

“We’ll be ready to throw everything into it next week.”
