Reports in today’s League Weekly have uncovered the identities of the backers behind the New York club bid.
The consortium has so far been fronted by Ricky Wilby, who is based in the UK, but the names of the other people involved had remained unknown.
Companies house reveals that New York Rugby League Limited is registered to an address in Huddersfield.
And League Weekly’s John Davidson claims the group includes businessmen John May and Robert Curtis.
Curtis is the director of events and conferences at New York Red Bulls football team and the Red Bull Arena.
The report also suggests that brothers Ian and Andrew Butlin are involved in the bid. The pair have associations with boxing and MMA.
The article claims that the finance is presently being provided by “an unnamed Russian individual”.
