Despite only signing for the club in the last couple of days, experienced half back Matty Smith is set to debut for Warrington Wolves in their top of the table clash with St Helens this evening.

Smith left the Catalans Dragons after less than a season to return to England and add some depth to the Wolves half back stocks, and will likely play alongside Declan Patton against one of his old clubs after Blake Austin suffered an ankle injury in the south of France last weekend.

Although largely unfamiliar with his new team’s surroundings, head coach Steve Price had no doubt Smith’s extensive experience would stand him in good stead in tonight’s game.

“He’s played enough footy to understand what it looks like,” he said.

“The calls and surroundings may be a little bit different but it’s about getting out there and enjoying his footy again, doing it with a smile and competing hard.

“I know what he can bring with his experience. And he knows a number of players within our team through the England set-up and playing at previous clubs so I felt he’s a good fit for us.”
