Sucker-punch player issued life ban

A player shown sucker-punching an opponent in the closing stages of his side’s North West Men’s League Division 2 Final defeat has received a life ban.

Langworthy Reds player Callum Jones was suspended ‘sine die’ at a hearing on Tuesday, though will be able to appeal the ruling after two years.

The Reds were comprehensively beaten by Chorley Panthers and the incident occurred in the dying minutes of the fixture.

North West Men’s League chair Stuart Prior said: “This was an appalling incident, which has been widely seen on social media, and it is therefore important that the punishment sends out the right message.
