Penrith Panthers coach Ivan Cleary is facing a potential fine after being investigated over swearing at NRL referee Ashley Klein at half time in his side’s defeat to Canberra.

Clearly allegedly confronted the official in the tunnel at Penrith Stadium and said: “Ashley they’re f***ing lying all over us. You can’t let them. You’ve got to stop them.”

When questioned about the issue after the game, Cleary admitted addressing the officials, but was quick to confirm there was nothing said that warranted any further action.

“I might’ve spoken to them, yeah, possibly. You can ask them. It was nothing untoward,” he said.
