Luke Thompson admits that choosing to leave St Helens is the toughest decision he’s ever made.

Saints announced on Monday that the prop will depart at the end of 2020 to take up a contract with Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL.

And in an emotional Instagram post, Thompson said: “I want to thank everyone for all the kind messages of support. This has been the toughest decision I have ever made.

“All my life I have supported Saints and I have been a part of the club since I started at the under-11s.

“The club has been like a family to me and I will be sad to leave at the end of the season, but I am really excited about my future with the Bulldogs.

“Finally there is still a lot to be done this year and my focus, as always, is giving 100% with the team at St Helens and finishing the season on a high!

“Once a Saint, always a Saint.”
