Newcastle Thunder have boosted their ranks ahead of the 2020 Betfred League 1 season with the signing of Ashley Gibson.

The 33-year-old, who has played for Leeds Rhinos, Salford Red Devils, Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity, arrives on Tyneside after leaving Bradford Bulls.

The Stanningley ARLFC product, who has played three times for England A, made his debut for the Rhinos at 18 where he scored a hat-trick in a 74-0 demolition of Leigh Centurions.

Gibson’s 2019 season was hindered through injury, but he is ready to go and hopes to play a huge part in Thunder’s attempt at gaining promotion to the Championship.

“It seemed like the club has a really good fan base and hopefully this year, I can do something good.”

He joins Bob Beswick, Rhys Clarke, Alex Clegg, Sean Croston, Kieran Gill, Ollie Gowing, Kieran Hudson, Adam Lawton, Sam Luckley, Rory Nettleton, Quentin Laulu Togaga’e, Colton Roche, Evan Simons, Brad Walker, Tyler Walton, Mikey Wood and Lewis Young in the ranks for 2020.
