Castleford’s Oliver Holmes has explained the players’ decision to pay for away travel for supporters heading to see the club face Salford on Thursday.

The Tigers squad is funding coach travel for 700 away supporters.

He told the Pontefract & Castleford Express’s Ben McKenna: “It is no easy job, tackling the M62 on a Thursday night through rush hour.

“And there is usually a diversion on the way back and it is on TV, so it is a credit to the amount of fans that got over there.

“Backing that up is never cheap so we just wanted to put cash in ourselves and give back to the fans.”
