Castleford Tigers director of rugby Jon Wells has backed new signing Danny Richardson to be one of the best players ever to play in Super League.
Richardson joined Castleford from St Helens at the end of the 2019 season for an undisclosed fee.
The 23-year-old, who was a member of the 2018 Super League Dream Team, found opportunites hard to come by in 2019 and has decided to move on and is seen as a direct replacement for Luke Gale who has joined rivals Leeds Rhinos.
Wells told the Pontefract and Castleford Express: “Luke Gale came to us as a good player and developed into a great player – he won Man of Steel and became an England international while he was here.
“I think that’s the attraction for someone like Danny. He has been incredibly frustrated to be limited to only 12 games this year, albeit in an outstanding St Helens side.
“He sees the track record Daryl (Powell) and the coaching group have got of improving players.
“He is an England Knights player now, before he joins us, so what can he become in his time here? That will benefit him, the English game and the Tigers so we can’t wait to get started.”
