Catalans’ Sam Tomkins has avoided a ban, despite being charged with Grade A dangerous contact in the Dragons’ defeat to St Helens yesterday.

The charge relates to an incident in the 58th minute involving young Saints full-back Jack Welsby.

The detail of the charge suggests: “Defender uses any part of his body forcefully to twist, bend or otherwise apply pressure to the limb or limbs of an opposing player in a way that involves an unacceptable risk of injury to that player.”

Tomkins was officially issued with a 0-match penalty notice, which means he is free to play in the Dragons’ trip to face Hull FC on Friday night.
