Chad Townsend has signed a contract extension to remain at Cronulla Sharks until at least the end of 2021.

The 2016 Grand Final winning half-back was already contracted to the club for the 2020 campaign, but this new deal will see him stay at the Sharks until 2021 with the option to carry on until 2023.

Townsend started his career in Cronulla in 2011, but he left to join New Zealand Warriors in 2014.

He made his return to the Sutherland Shire in 2016 and immediately helped the Sharks win the competition as they defeated Melbourne Storm 14-12 at the ANZ Stadium.
