St Helens coach Justin Holbrook was delighted to reach the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup once again, but put immediate focus on producing an improved performance to 12 months ago.
Saints were rampant in the quarter-finals, putting Wakefield to the sword 48-10 to reach the double header event once again. However, with their shock defeat to eventual Cup winners Catalans last season still fresh in Holbrook’s mind, the Australian was confident in his side’s ability to perform on the big stage this time round.
“To get to the semis is fantastic. It’s an opportunity to play better at Bolton and that’s our aim. It’s a long way off still but in every big game so far this year we’ve played really well,” he said.
“I thought we played really well last week and it was important to back it up. We didn’t start the second half too well and we had to work hard to get back control.”
