The Sydney Morning Herald’s Danny Weidler reports that England rugby union boss Eddie Jones has his sights set on a top job in the NRL after his current contract runs out. “NRL clubs take note, Jones would like a crack at rugby league at some point in his career. From what I can gather, he has told mates that taking over from Wayne Bennett when he finishes at Souths appeals,” Weidler writes.

Michael Maguire admits he would like a Kiwi to replace him as New Zealand’s national coach eventually. He told NRL.com’s Corey Rosser: “Blairy, Jared [Waerea-Hargreaves] and Benji Marshall, those guys at some stage I would like to see follow someone like Stephen Kearney [into coaching]. I want one of those boys to take my role at some stage.”

Scott Taylor believes he will have to earn the respect of new star signing Manu Ma’u. The Tongan international joins Hull FC from the NRL. He told Hull Daily Mail’s William Jackson: “When you get new players in and you get a player like Manu Ma’u, I want to earn his respect, I want to train the house down and I want to show him why I’m vice-captain and why I’m an international player.”

SunSport’s Gary Carter says Leeds are lining up a move for England rugby union star George Ford. After Toronto confirmed the capture of Sonny Bill Williams this week, the Rhinos are looking to follow suit, with Ford admitting he’d like be open to returning to the sport he played as a youngster. Ford said: “I’d always love to. I’ve always missed the game and I love watching it still.

Kevin Sinfield says that discussions about Wayne Bennett’s future as Great Britain coach should factor in his wider achievements. The RFL’s rugby director told the BBC Radio 5 Live Rugby League podcast: “He got us to a World Cup final, we won the Test series last year against the Kiwis, and although there is disappointment this time with GB, it’s important to understand the changes and the transition that has happened.”

League Express’ Matt Shaw is reporting that Leeds are hoping to complete the signing of Cronulla prop Matt Prior this week after previous speculation linking him with a move to Super League. “The Rhinos are in the driving seat to sign the 32-year-old Cronulla forward and they are ready to kick on in their pursuit of the Sharks veteran in the coming days,” Shaw writes.

Huddersfield are set to offload Matt Frawley in a bid to land Aidan Sezer. The Giants have been linked with a move for the Canberra half-back for several weeks. And League Weekly’s Dave Parker claims Frawley could link up with Halifax in the Championship as the Giants aim to secure a three-year deal for Sezer. Parker adds: “Expect the Giants to announce a deal as soon as he gets a work permit.”
