Wigan star “heartbroken” to have played last game with Williams

One of the stars of Wigan’s 2019 season has spoken of his heartbreak at not being able to send George Williams out a winner.

Williams will depart the Warriors to take up a contract with Canberra from next season and there will be no fairytale finish to his time with Wigan following defeat to Salford on Friday.

And centre Oliver Gildart that not being able to walk out at Old Trafford together is a bitter pill to swallow.

He said: “I’m heartbroken it will be my last time I will play with George.

“We had a couple of tears in the changing room after the game – it was pretty sad. I wish him all the best. I’m gutted about it.

Giltart added: “Credit to Salford. They were outstanding and they’ve been brilliant all season. I hope they go on and win it.

“I’ve got a lot of time for Salford as they gave me my Super League debut when I was on loan there.”
