Wigan Warriors will play host to Leeds Rhinos in January to celebrate Liam Farrell’s Testimonial year.
Farrell, who made his Warriors debut against Wakefield Trinity in April 2010, has been granted a Testimonial and the game will take place on Sunday, January 19 2020 at the DW Stadium with a kick-off time of 3pm.
It is very rare that the Warriors play home pre-season matches at the DW Stadium, but Farrell’s game should attract a decent-sized crowd.
The 29-year-old told the club website: “In terms of having Leeds as the opposition I couldn’t think of a better opposition to be playing against.
“I’m over the moon. I’ve had so many games in my career against Leeds – some of which have been the best I’ve played in.
“I’ve got some great memories against them and I’m very grateful they can come and play in my Testimonial match at the DW. To play it there is unbelievably special to me. It’s pretty surreal.
“The last Testimonial at the DW was Lockers’ over eight years ago. Hopefully, a lot of our fans will be eager to get down and watch us play – it should be a great day for everyone.”
The game could be a chance for the Wigan fans to get a glimpse of the likes of Jackson Hastings, Mitch Clark, George Burgess and Jake Bibby in cherry and white for the first time.
The Warriors have also revealed they will play a further two pre-season friendlies either side of Farrell’s Testimonial match. A young side will travel to the Capital on Friday, January 17 to face London Skolars, while they will come up against a familiar face in Jarrod Sammut when they go to Leigh Centurions on Thursday, January 24.
